Air temperatures have continued to stay in the 40's and 50's keeping the water temperatures in our rivers higher and the fish more active than expected.

The Upper Madison-From Ennis lake south the Madison continues to produce very consistently with small nymphs. We fished below Varney Bridge a few days ago and using san juan worms and small copper john's with weight under an indicator, fishing was steady. The browns are in spawning colors and feisty.

The Lower Madison- From Ennis lake north the Madison also is fishing very well. Water temperatures tend to be somewhat warmer in this piece of water and you can fish streamers as well as nymphs. In fact you may still hit some midge or blue winged olive activity on the surface.

The Big Hole-As with other area rivers you are going to have to fish deep with split shot and indicators but you should have good steady fishing on the river particulary from the area of Divide downstream. Use the small bead head patterns, san juan worms and egg fly patterns.

One word of caution on the Big Hole; the browns are spawning and you can find fish on redds. We suggest that you do not harass the trout found on the redds but let them spawn unmolested.

The Beaverhead is very low from Clark Canyon dam to Dillon but fishing can be good. You will still find dry fly action on some sections of the river. Blue winged olive mayflies hatch late morning and the fish will work on them. From Dillon downstream the Beav has much more water due to irrigation return. Fish streamers and nymphs effectively.

Remember the Beaverhead from Pipe Organ Bridge to Clark Canyon Dam will close the end of November.

The Jefferson has very good flows now and you can take fish using nymphs in the obvious runs. Again, we like to fish two bead heads in tandem. San Juan Worms and small bead heads of your choice should produce a few fish. On warmer days give a streamer a chance. You may move some large fish.

The Ruby is open year around and will provde the small stream fishing many anglers enjoy. You might encounter some midge action on top but more than likely you will need to fish streamers and nymphs sub surface.

Get out and enjoy these nice fall days. They are not going to last.

Good Luck
